It’s been AGES since we had a pork chop or loin of any sort…
The truth is that my hubby is a little bit picky – not only is pork not ‘his favourite’ meat, but he was also brought up having meat where all the fat was cut off for him, and it was always off the bone too…so it has made him a little bit fussy! I have tried in our years together to overcome this, but to no real avail!
I, on the other hand, love nothing more than a good chew on a bone, or the tasty, crispy fat that you can get on some meat (as long as there isn’t too much) and a pork loin steak just has that balance!
The Hazeldine’s Original Butcher’s Wrap for the week which we were sent contained four pork loin steaks (two in each wrap) and they looked just divine. They were a really good size and rippled with just the right amount of fat. They needed NO messing…
Meal five – Grilled Pork Loin Steaks
…so I decided to grill them and serve them with mashed potato, home-made cauliflower cheese, cabbage, carrots and onion gravy! Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm!
This was a perfect meal for us on a Wednesday night. With the eldest being at cubs, it meant I could pre-prepare the cauliflower cheese before hand ready to pop in the oven at the last minute, and the rest could be cooked once Martha had gone down in her cot for the night and whilst the hubby had gone to pick Jorge up from cubs. It was ready just in time for them walking through the door.
I can’t describe just how tasty the pork actually was. As they cooked, the fat had crisped up in places but had also almost melted into the loin steak making them ‘melt in the mouth’ and just so succulent. They were sooooo tasty too – really good quality and full of flavour!
I will admit that I did have to ‘cut the fat’ off the steak for the hubby…but the rest of us tucked right in with not a scrap left.
A simple but tasty family meal!
So what meat do we have left? Well, I’ve still got to make quite a few meals, and we’re already on day four! We’ve got the braising steak, the burgers, 2 packs of lean minced steak and a pack of bacon left to play with! Plenty of meat…which will almost certainly mean that this Butcher’s Wrap will last us longer than a week. Great meat…and great value too! And that’s not forgetting that they now deliver all over the UK!
Disclosure: I was sent a double Original Butcher’s Wrap Up free of charge from Hazeldines for the purposes of this series of reviews, but all opinions remain my own and are honest, as always. I received no other financial compensation.
